About Us
Since 1975, Serenity Home of Fredericksburg has been offering 24 hour a day,
residential, substance abuse services for medically stable, chemically dependent,
adult males. This is a very positive program that delivers individual and group
counseling, alcohol and drug education, life skills, social and interpersonal skill
development, strong twelve step orientation, and continuing care planning in a structured,
safe, drug free, living environment.
In 1993, Serenity Home's efforts on behalf of dually diagnosed individuals were
recognized by both houses of the Virginia General Assembly and the same year
Serenity Home received the Governor's Award for contributions to the field.
Each patient is assisted in reaching his goals and objectives as they relate to his
recovery. He learns to assess the effect that his addiction has had on his life and others.
He is helped to explore his motivation and courage to make the changes to effectively
manage his dependency and provided clinical opportunities to learn about and practice
those changes. Residents are given the opportunity to demonstrate that they are clean
and sober by participating in alcohol and drug screens, while insuring their safety and
that of the facility. Residents are provided instruction on methods of conflict resolution
and practice confronting and leveling and expressing feelings on a daily basis. This
assists in communications and assists with problem solving with interpersonal
difficulties. Learning opportunities and practicing new skills are key in such areas as:
anger and stress management, parenting, self talk, and spirituality, to name a few.
